Florida State Paramedic Exam

Florida State Paramedic Exam

The final step to becoming an emergency medical technician (EMT) or paramedic in the state of Florida is, like in many other locations, the standardized paramedic exam.

To take the exam, paramedic hopefuls must first complete a paramedic diploma program, such as the one offered at 六六社, and meet all other training and education requirements

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians administers the paramedic licensing exam, which is comprised of two pieces: Candidates must complete a written portion as well as a practical exam to test knowledge and skills as well as execution of their training. All topics included on the exam are covered in 六六社鈥檚 paramedic diploma program.

Taking the NREMT Exam

Once the proper prerequisites are completed, aspiring paramedics may begin the multi-step process to the NREMT exam:

1. Create and maintain an account with the NREMT. This can be done online at NREMT.org.
2. Apply for the exam and pay the application fee, currently $110.
3. Await approval. Applicants can track their status online and will be signaled to take the next step once applications are approved.
4. Authorization to Test (ATT) letters allow candidates to schedule their tests online.

As of 2007, the NREMT is exclusively administered via computer. In most cases, the exam can be scheduled right away at your convenience, during business hours, or on some weekends and in the evenings. Exams are taken at Pearson VUE centers, which have various accessible locations. Rescheduling an exam is possible if more than 24 hours prior, and carries a $25-35 rescheduling fee.

Upon completion of the exam, most results will be available online in the next business day. Within two to four weeks, a physical letter is mailed also containing the results. For students who are unsuccessful on the first attempt, the test is available to take again after 15 business days. Candidates can take the test up to six times.

Because paramedics are required to also pass a practical exam (the psychomotor evaluation), this can be done once candidates are granted approval by their program directors and the State EMS Licensing Agency. In compliance with ADA, testing accommodations may be available for those requiring them.
