Medical careers were ranked on a scale of 1 – 10 and given an overall score of whether the career was excellent, good, average, poor, or bad.  All of the top ten medical careers were rated within the excellent and good range.

EMT/Paramedic Ranked For Job Availability 

EMT/Paramedics made the top 10 list of the 2016 most desired medical careers. The overall rating of each position is based on four things: salary, educational requirements, job availability, and work environment. It is noted that the pro of becoming an EMT/Paramedic is the abundance of jobs available. The average salary for the highest 10 percent of workers is about $53,550.

As an EMT/Paramedic, you can begin working with a high school diploma and a post-secondary certificate, where many of the other careers may ask for a minimum of an Associate or Bachelor degree. For EMT/Paramedics, there are about 55,300 projected job openings, which is a growth of 23%.  Nationwide there are close to 239,000 EMT/Paramedic jobs. Workplace opportunities include clinics and government positions.  Lastly, as an EMT/Paramedic, you may find yourself working many hours. There are full-time and part-time positions, on call, freelance/consultant, swing shifts, graveyard shifts, and working holidays.
