Teaching CPR in Schools: The Next Generation of Lifesavers

High School CPR

Four out of five cardiac arrests occur at home, and failure to act in such an emergency can lead to death.  The American Heart Association is looking to decrease the chances of death from cardiac arrest by implementing a program called the CPR in Schools Training Kit.

This portable training kit is designed to train 10 to 20 students at once and includes all the necessary tools teachers would need in order to instruct his/her students.  The CPR in Schools Training Kit includes an academic DVD that teaches CPR, AED and choking relief, along with hands-on practice with mannequins.  Within a half hour of training, students will be prepared to save a life with their new skills.  The CPR in Schools Training Kit makes it simple for educators to teach an entire school how to perform CPR, providing the next generation an important set of skills that will stay with them throughout life.

CPR in Schools Kit Includes:

  • 10 Mini AnnePlus inflatable manikins
  • 10 kneel mats with carry bags
  • 10 practice-while-watching training DVDs
  • Hand pump for manikin inflation
  • 2 mesh collection and storage bags
  • Classroom carry bag
  • 50 replacement airways
  • 50 manikin wipes
  • 10 replacement face masks
  • Facilitator Guide

In the United States, CPR training is not mandatory in all states.  In states such as Vermont, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, CPR training is required for high school graduation.  The remaining states do not have a state law implemented, but schools and districts may offer CPR training.  If CPR training is not required in your state, and you want to get involved, please click .
