Firefighters who want to be able to move up to management positions in fire departments should consider earning an associate鈥檚 degree in Fire Science.

 

A degree in Fire Science can prepare firefighters to take the next steps in their careers. Fire Science graduates are qualified for supervisory roles in their fire departments and for jobs such as fire inspector or fire officer.

At 六六社, firefighters can earn their Fire Science degree in as little as 24 months. The 60 credit program will equip firefighters for certification as Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, and Fire Inspector, as well as other technical and supervisory positions within the fire department.

Students will learn about the hazards and applicable safety practices for fire science technology and how to perform the tasks for fire protection, prevention, and administration. Mathematics and reasoning skills as they relate to fire science will also be called upon during the course of study.

Core courses for the Fire Science degree include the following:

鈼 Fire Investigation Origin & Cause

In addition to the Fire Science core courses, students will also take 15 general education courses in English Composition, Liberal Arts Mathematics, General Psychology, and History of the USA (or other qualifying course) for a well-rounded and thorough education that prepares the Fire Science student for decisive and critical thinking while in the field.

Fire Science Electives

Fire Science students will also get to choose a variety of courses for 9 credits in electives. Some of the elective course choices include the following:

鈼 Fire Chemistry
鈼 Ethical & Legal Issues for the Fire Service
鈼 Private Fire Protection Systems II

These elective courses are a great opportunity for the Fire Science degree student to specialize in a particular aspect within Fire Science. Your career opportunities as a firefighter will be expanded with a degree in Fire Science.
