What Do Case Management Nurses Do?
Case Management Nurses will often plan and implement patient care as well as the use of other resources. They work in many different facilities, such as rehabilitation facilities, the insurance industry, Nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and many other places throughout the community. They also coordinate services for medically fragile children, accident victims, hospice patients, victims of abuse and neglect, patients with substance abuse issues and patients with mental health.
It also must be noted that Case Management Nurses typically spend much more time in front of a computer than other Nurses. Because of this, they must be computer-savvy. Case Management Nurses also work holistically, meaning that care and discharge plans all must meet every need of the patient.
Case Management Nurses also make sure that all ethical and legal issues are addressed. They must be experts regarding public and private insurance policies when it comes to health care. Nurses will review charts and documents, as well as meet with many other professionals to ensure that patients always receive adequate care.
