It is common to think of a Nurse as someone who assists patients, taking blood pressure and administering shots when necessary. But, a Nurse’s job description is so much more than that.
Responsibilities Of A Nurse
Nurses are expected to do the following:
- Observe patient behavior
- Record patient behavior
- Administer medications
- Perform diagnostics
- Consult with doctors and various healthcare professionals
- Treat emergencies – strokes, car accidents, heart attacks, burns, etc.
- Work with patients from pediatric to geriatric
- Come up with treatment plans for patients
- Supervise other Nurses
Work Environment For Nurses
Most employed Nurses work in a hospital environment. Other Nurses are employed at the following:
- Physicians’ offices
- Home health care services
- Nursing care farcicalities
- Government agencies
- Support services
- Educational services
- Patients’ homes
- Schools
- Community centers
- Travel nurses
Aside from the environment in which Nurses work, the nature of the job may also be in question. Nurses spend the majority of their careers on their feet while working 24-hour shifts. The number of shifts will depend on who you are employed by. Nights and weekends are also a reality.
