Preparing For An EMS Interview

Before you begin going on interviews for your career in Emergency Medical Services, you will want to do some preparing. The following will give you a glimpse of the type of questions you can expect when you go on an EMS interview along with some guidelines for your answers.

Tell Us Of A Time When You Had To Do The Right Thing, Even When It Was Difficult For You Personally.

This is a great way for an EMS interview panel to get a feel of your character and see how you would react in a tough situation. Are you able to handle the pressure? It is also outside of the realm of commonly asked questions, so it is likely a question that requires an answer that you would not have prepared, and this is what they are looking for.

The EMS interview panel will likely ask you some typical questions, along with some that will really make you think on the spot. They want honest answers from you, not what you think they want to hear.

Another Emergency Responder Insists On Transporting A Patient Against His Will. How Would You Proceed?

When a question like this is asked, the EMS panel is trying to get to know about your particular skills and if they would be beneficial to the agency. Scenario-based questions are common place among panels. It is a good tactic to put you on the spot, just as you would be in the field.

Do not feel like you have to jump right to an answer. Take some time to think it out so your plan comes out properly and is well thought out.

Emergency Medical Technician Ethical Scenarios

You should expect a few questions along the lines of ethics. The panel will want to know if you will be the one to respond in a difficult situation or if you will pass it up the chain of command in order to correct it.

There is no right or wrong way to answer, but they will measure your answer against your previous answers for logic and consistency to determine if you would be a good fit for their team.
