How to Become an EMT in the State of Florida
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) can be the frontliners in many emergency situations. When someone calls for help and needs an ambulance, an EMT can be on board to perform life-supporting services until the patient has been transported to the emergency room.
Florida Requirements for EMT
Becoming an EMT in the requires a combination of education and hands-on experience in the field. An EMT will not only need to be licensed by the state for EMT but will also need training and certification in CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. These certifications form the basis of the education and training that an EMT will receive to become certified as an emergency medical technician.
In addition to having a current American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer card and/or an American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider card, an EMT will need to have completed training from a Florida Department of Health-approved EMT program.
Finally, the EMT applicant will need to take and pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) exam in order to complete the licensing requirements for EMT within the state of Florida. All proof will need to be submitted along with an application before an EMT will be licensed to perform as an EMT in the field.
